Bookish Board Games

I'm a trivia junkie. I admit it. I'm not ashamed. My family tolerates loves watching Jeopardy! every evening, and Hubby especially appreciates the occasional "Ha, in your face!" when I'm right and he's wrong. I don't really do that. Except for that ONE time. Ok. The family hates it. Too bad, I'm claiming complete domination of the remote from 6 to 6:30 every weekday. Unless I'm in the garden and don't realize what time it is.

So what to do on those rainy days when I can't get in the garden. And my half hour of TV bliss is not to be found? Board Games!!! About BOOKS! Fantastic...they'll LOOOVVVE IT! Probably not. But maybe your bookish family and friends are more open to the idea. So here are a few ideas I've come up with.

Bookopoly Board Game

2-6 players; ages 8+
playing time 20-60 minutes

Bookopoly A Novel Property Trading Game Celebrating the Classics. Open a book! The world awaits you! Book-opoly allows a look inside the many worlds contained in classic literature. It's a traditional trading game where players buy, sell and trade their way to fun with family and friends. Interesting facts about the books and the authors are printed on the back of each property deed. Roll the dice and advance to READ. Collect Bookstores and trade them in for Libraries. Who knows! You may soon be elected President of the Book Club --- or you may be tossed out of the game for three turns and sent to WATCH TV! Whatever happens, you are going to have fun - and perhaps learn a little something too! Tokens include fly, carousel horse, worm, whale, glasses, clipper. For 2 to 6 players, Ages 8 and up. Begin at "Goodnight Moon" and "Where the Wild Things Are" and end with "The Great Gatsby" and "The Grapes Of Wrath".

Literati Challenge

ages 13+

This game sounds completely up my alley. You can score points for making shit up!

Literati Challenge is the new, laugh out loud party game of bluffing and creative chutzpa. Players must write a story in 90 seconds using five words. The challenge? You may not know the meaning of the words provided, but to score points you need to bluff your way through. First player to reach 300 points wins.

Liebrary

ages 12+

Continuing on with the lies bluffing. This one fits in (kind of) with my recent Just For Fun: Opening Lines post

In Liebrary, players are given a book title and the plot summary and then asked it create the most believable first line of the book. The object of the game is to bluff other players into believing that their first line is the correct one. The more outrageous the better.
